Arte Popular Latino presents contemporary and popular art that reflects central themes of Latin American reality and opens up new perspectives on globally and locally relevant issues. Our focus is on activist art that deals with and reflects social injustice, oppression and racism. Cultural identity and diversity, mysticism or a deep connection to nature also characterize the works of many of our selected artists. Feminist perspectives round off the variety of topics in our diverse portfolio.

AFRICAN ROOTS
The colonial era created a racism that is unfortunately still evident in many countries and societies today - both in Latin America and here in Europe. The artists represented counteract this by celebrating the rich African heritage and inviting people to celebrate cultural diversity.

Poverty and extreme inequality, open racism or silent social exclusion, flight and migration, environmental destruction and climate change - all of this is unfortunately also part of the Latin American reality. As activists, our artists often put their finger on open wounds. They shake things up, mobilize and motivate civil society to stand up for a better world. ¡Latinoamérica Rebelde! Resistance, Protest and an Active Civil Society are of fundamental importance for the functioning of a democracy.

FEMINIST ART
Women in Latin America continue to be affected by deep-rooted inequality, structural discrimination and omnipresent violence. Nevertheless, they refuse to be silenced: with powerful artistic expressions, unshakable courage and a clear feminist attitude, artists are taking up the fight against patriarchal structures. They question the existing power structures, expose grievances and create spaces in which new perspectives can emerge - impulses that initiate change and give hope for a fairer future.
